A 23-year-old man in Etah district, Satyaveer Kumar, has died after allegedly being assaulted while in police custody, spurring an official inquiry. Authorities revealed that an investigation into the incident has been ordered after the man was accused of eloping with a local girl, officials confirmed Saturday.

Satyaveer's family has charged the police station with subjecting him to severe torture, claiming he was critically injured and later died shortly after his release from custody. Amid these accusations, the family lodged a formal complaint, urging that a case be brought against Sub-Inspector Surendra Singh and other officers present at the incident, demanding their suspension and detention.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shyam Narayan Singh declared that Satyaveer's questioning was related to a missing girl case dating back to March, with his brother in attendance. Although the family reports he hanged himself upon returning home, a thorough investigation has commenced. The officers in question have been reassigned, and further inquiries will include post-mortem results and CCTV footage from the station.
