The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has ordered an in-depth investigation into Google's conduct in the online display advertising market. The probe follows a grievance filed by the Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF), which accuses Google of engaging in anti-competitive practices.
The CCI's ruling, delivered last Friday, highlights concerns over Google's alleged self-preferencing in the AdTech ecosystem. The Director General has been directed to carry out a consolidated probe, examining Google's practices in Online Display Advertising services, including claims of tying and bundling of services.
In response, Google's spokesperson expressed confidence in their compliance with competition laws, despite ADIF's allegations. The investigation will scrutinize Google's practices in a market that includes notable players like Xandr and Amazon Ads, determining whether these practices breach Section 4 of the Competition Act, which addresses the abuse of dominant positions.
