A tragic incident unfolded when railway worker Itua Oram was killed in an IED explosion on a railway track near the Odisha-Jharkhand border in Sundergarh district, police reported.
The blast, suspected to be the work of Maoists due to nearby posters, caused minor damage to tracks connecting Karampada and Renjda, though train services are unaffected as the line is a loop track, according to a South Eastern Railway spokesperson.
As Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi mourned the loss and announced a Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, police are clearing the area for maintenance efforts in the Saranda forest range.
