Ceasefire Shattered: Renewed Violence in Syria's Sweida Province
In Sweida, Syria, armed groups have attacked internal security forces, killing one and wounding others. This violates the ceasefire in the predominantly Druze region, previously torn by factional violence. The area has long-standing tensions between Druze and Sunni tribes, exacerbated by recent attacks.

In a stark violation of an already fragile ceasefire, armed groups unleashed a series of attacks on Syria's internal security forces in the volatile Sweida province, leaving one officer dead and multiple others injured, according to state-run Ekhbariya TV.
These assaults, targeting several villages, come despite a ceasefire in the predominantly Druze area, where factional bloodshed had previously claimed hundreds of lives. The violence reignited on July 13 amid clashes between tribal fighters and Druze factions, with government forces struggling to restore order.
The Sweida province, home to the Druze minority and Sunni tribes, is rife with tension over land and resources. A U.S.-brokered truce had temporarily ceased fighting, but recent hostilities pose a challenging test for interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, already contending with a sectarian crisis earlier this year.
