Four fishermen in Odisha's Balasore district have gone missing after setting out to sea, local police reported on Sunday. The individuals, hailing from Kankadapal village in the Baliapal block, departed early Saturday morning but failed to return by evening, prompting family members to alert police.
A search operation is currently underway, coordinated by the Odisha Police, which has deployed a 12-tonne vessel from Kasafal Marine Police Station, and additional boats from Balaramgadi. The Fisheries Department's 'Sagar Mitra' team has also joined the rescue mission.
Drones are being used for aerial searches, and the Indian Coast Guard has been enlisted to help locate the missing fishermen. Enhanced patrolling along the coastline and communication with neighboring states' marine stations are part of the ongoing efforts, local authorities have confirmed on social media.
