A police checkpost in Pakistan's volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was the scene of a deadly confrontation as a group of nearly 50 militants launched an armed ambush late on Saturday night, officials disclosed on Sunday.

The attack, which targeted the Fateh Khel police checkpost in Bannu district, left one policeman and three assailants dead after gunfire was exchanged. Two additional police officers sustained injuries before the attackers fled the scene, police reported.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi publicly condemned the assault, lauding the bravery of the officers involved while no group has yet taken responsibility. This event occurs amid a spike in militant activity across the region, including incidents in Miryan and Malakand.
