A two-year-old girl was astonishingly found alive in a suitcase inside a bus's luggage compartment in New Zealand. Authorities arrested a woman on charges of child neglect following the unsettling discovery.

During a scheduled stop in Kaiwaka, north of Auckland, the bus driver noticed movement in the suitcase after granting a passenger access to the luggage area, according to Detective Inspector Simon Harrison. Upon opening the suitcase, the driver discovered the overheated but physically unharmed toddler.

The child was immediately taken to a hospital, where she remained under observation. The suspect, who was charged with ill-treatment or neglect of the child, was set to appear in court on Monday. Her identity has not been disclosed by law enforcement.
