The Ganga river surpassed the danger mark on Monday morning, leading to the submergence of ghats and prompting officials to relocate cremation and religious activities to rooftops and raised platforms.
The river was recorded at 72.1 metres, exceeding the critical level of 71.262 metres, according to the Central Water Commission. Consequently, the renowned Ganga 'aarti' at Dashashwamedh ghat and cremations at Manikarnika and Harishchandra ghats have been moved to safer, elevated locations.
District authorities have banned boat traffic on the river as a precaution, while NDRF teams are actively patrolling flood-stricken zones to rescue stranded residents. District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar, who visited the affected areas and relief camps, instructed officials to ensure the provision of food, medical care, and sanitation services for affected families.
