A tragic incident unfolded as an official of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) allegedly took his life using his service rifle. The event transpired on Sunday night at the CAF's 2nd battalion camp in Bayanar village, according to police sources.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Kaushalendra Dev Patel, identified the official as Dinesh Singh Chandel, a platoon commander. Chandel reportedly shot himself with his AK-47 inside his room. Colleagues who heard the gunshot rushed to the scene, only to discover him deceased.
While the precise reason for this extreme step remains under investigation, preliminary findings suggest possible family issues. Chandel was a resident of Bhilai, Durg district. This incident follows a troubling pattern, with 177 security personnel suicides reported in the region since 2019.
