Hong Kong Intensifies Crackdown on Overseas Activists

Hong Kong authorities have ramped up actions against 16 overseas activists, implementing a range of measures including financial support bans and passport cancellations. These activists, previously targeted by arrest warrants, are accused of endangering national security. The measures align with Hong Kong's national security law enacted in 2020.

In a decisive move, Hong Kong authorities have increased pressure on 16 overseas-based activists, who were initially targeted with bounties and arrest warrants in July for allegedly endangering national security through their roles in the Hong Kong Parliament—an organization deemed subversive.

Measures include prohibitions against financial support, properties leasing, and joint ventures with the activists, such as Victor Ho and U.S. citizen Gong Sasha. Out of the 16, 12 had their Hong Kong passports nullified, and violators of these orders face severe penalties.

The activists, operating from the UK, US, Canada, and other countries, are accused of inciting anti-government sentiments. The crackdown has drawn international criticism, with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio denouncing it as transnational repression, while Beijing insists the laws are crucial for stability.
