In a significant development, the Raipur court has extended the judicial custody of Chaitanya Baghel, son of the former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, until August 18. The extension comes amid ongoing investigations into a money laundering case tied to a substantial liquor scam in the region.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) renewed its demand for Chaitanya's remand, stipulating another 14 days following the expiry of the previous judicial remand. Legal representative Faisal Rizvi confirmed the decision made by the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court.
The ED alleges that Chaitanya managed over Rs 1,000 crore of illicit funds, utilizing Rs 16.7 crore for a real estate venture. Meanwhile, Bhupesh Baghel contended that the allegations serve as political distractions, accusing central agencies of selectively targeting opposition leaders.
