A parliamentary committee is pressing the finance ministry to swiftly activate the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) benches across the nation. GSTAT is crucial for resolving tax disputes efficiently and reducing the strain on higher courts.
The principal bench is set in New Delhi, with 31 state benches planned nationwide. However, significant delays, particularly in appointing Technical Members for each state, have stalled progress.
The committee urges a coordinated effort to expedite the formation of search-cum-selection committees and final appointments, emphasizing that these delays are negatively impacting the GST ecosystem by prolonging disputes and overloading the High Courts.
