The Supreme Court on Monday expressed concern over the state government's failure to submit a fresh forensic report on leaked audio clips linking former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to ethnic violence. This demand comes months after earlier instructions were given for such a report to be filed.

A bench led by Justices Sanjay Kumar and Satish Chandra Sharma highlighted the delay, pointing to a previous order from May 2025. They inquired why the forensic report, crucial to the investigation's authenticity, had not been provided yet and stressed the urgency of concluding the forensic analysis.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioner Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust, emphasized the gravity of the allegations contained in the audio clips. The court acknowledged the seriousness of the matter, given that more than 260 lives were lost in the clash between Meitei and Kuki communities that began in May 2023.
