A local court rejected the bail application of Fayaz, the man accused of murdering 23-year-old college student Neha Hiremath on her college campus. The decision came on Monday, with the First Additional District and Sessions Judge Pallavi B R leading the proceedings.
Neha, a first-year MCA student, was fatally stabbed after allegedly turning down Fayaz's romantic advances. Fayaz, who had been her batchmate during their BCA course, subsequently attacked Neha. The accused, a dropout himself, has been incarcerated at Dharwad Central Prison for more than a year.
Reacting to the court's decision, Neha's father, Congress Corporator Niranjan Hiremath, expressed a bittersweet satisfaction, stating, 'This is our first victory.' The prosecutor in the case maintains that efforts will continue to pursue a severe sentence against Fayaz, with the next hearing scheduled for August 6.
