The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is moving forward with plans to fortify animal birth control centers and initiate zone-specific anti-rabies awareness campaigns to combat the problem of stray dogs in the national capital.
A new initiative includes the implantation of microchips in dogs at corporation-run centers, in collaboration with various NGOs. These chips will carry sterilization status and other critical data, allowing for easier monitoring and tracking in the future.
Further, the centers will provide regular health check-ups, including blood tests. The decisions emerged from a Monday meeting of the MCD's Standing Committee subcommittee, chaired by the subcommittee head and vice chairman. Environmentalist and BJP leader Maneka Gandhi and Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma also attended, with Gandhi stressing a humane, resource-equipped, and strategic approach to handling stray dogs.
