An assistant sub-inspector of the Jammu police has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after being caught allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. This was reportedly part of a larger demand for Rs 1,00,000 to not involve the complainant in a theft case.
The bureau acted on a complaint lodged by the man who was asked to pay the bribe by the Sub-Inspector, Mohd Akram Choudhary, who was then serving at the Railway Protection Force in Jammu. After initial verification, the ACB found substantial evidence supporting the bribery allegations against the officer.
The ACB set up a sting operation, leading to Choudhary's arrest while he was accepting the first instalment of Rs 20,000. The operation was carried out lawfully, with the bribe amount recovered from him at the scene, officials confirmed.
