Rising Concerns Over Racism Targeting Indian Nationals in Dublin

An Indian-origin taxi driver, Lakhvir Singh, stationed in Dublin for more than two decades, became the victim of a violent, unprovoked attack, prompting an investigation by the local police force, Gardai.

Singh disclosed to local media that he suffered an attack after dropping two young men at Poppintree in the Ballymun suburb. The men allegedly hit him on the head with a bottle before fleeing while shouting racial slurs. Singh expressed fear and uncertainty about returning to work, as his family shares these concerns.

The incident spurred a response from the Indian Embassy, which has alerted Indian nationals about rising attacks. Irish authorities are engaging together with the embassy as demonstrations and commentaries stress the urgency for enhanced measures to safeguard racial harmony.
