The government is taking crucial steps to ensure the operational readiness of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) with the appointment of necessary members for various benches. These appointments are pivotal in bringing the tribunal to life, a move long-awaited by the industry and taxpayers alike.

Justice (Retd.) Sanjaya Kumar Mishra was appointed as President of the Principal Bench of GSTAT in May 2024. Additionally, key appointments such as Mayank Kumar Jain and retired officers A Venu Prasad and Anil Kumar Gupta as judicial and technical members were made to drive the tribunal's function.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, expressing urgency, has directed the Finance Ministry to pursue a time-bound approach. With 31 state benches already notified, the drive to appoint technical members in states is underway, bringing hope for a swifter resolution process and unlocking of capital.
