A man in Russia's Kaliningrad has been detained on charges of high treason, accused of passing satellite secrets to the United States. The suspect, identified only as 'O' in court statements, previously worked for a company producing electronic engines for space satellites.
According to the court, 'O' is suspected of having collected information on the company's technology on behalf of U.S. intelligence services over a two-year period, from July 2021 to December 2023. The court has placed him in pre-trial detention until September 30, pending further investigation into the espionage claims.
The charges against the accused are severe, carrying the weight of life imprisonment if proven in court. This case highlights ongoing tensions and espionage risks between nations engaged in space technology development.
