The Delhi High Court, on Wednesday, directed the capital's police and relevant authorities to expedite their decision on a public plea that demands a database of individuals who file multiple sexual offence complaints.
Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela presided over the hearing of a PIL, acknowledging that the petitioner had already made representations to the Delhi Police and other authorities. The court, however, did not delve into the merits of the petition, opting instead to dispose of the case.
In response to the request for a mandatory database, the court highlighted that it is within the authorities' domain, underlining their expertise in policing. Filed by Shonee Kapoor, the PIL alleged widespread misuse of rape laws by certain complainants and urged the authorities to maintain a database to verify identities.
