Five new judges were sworn in at the Allahabad High Court on Thursday, raising the court's total number of judges to 83. The appointments were made through an official order from the Union Ministry of Law and Justice.
The judges, named Pramod Kumar Srivastava-II, Santosh Rai, Zafeer Ahmad, Abdul Shahid, and Tej Pratap Tiwari, took their oaths in the Chief Justice's courtroom. The appointments were issued after a notification on August 4.
Currently, there are only 78 judges working in the combined Allahabad High Court and its Lucknow bench, which operates under a sanctioned strength of 160. The new appointments aim to alleviate the looming shortage.
