Peace Talks: Cambodia and Thailand's Path to Harmony
Cambodia and Thailand's defense leaders meet in Malaysia to finalize peace after a deadly border conflict. Ceasefire guidelines aim to restore trust and protect civilians. US trade pressures influenced the negotiations, involving China and ASEAN. The dispute traces back to historical border demarcations.

Top defense officials from Cambodia and Thailand have commenced critical peace talks in Malaysia, targeting a resolution to ongoing hostilities following a ruthless five-day border conflict.
The skirmishes, the worst in over a decade, involved artillery exchanges and aerial bombings that resulted in 43 fatalities and displaced over 300,000 people. Diplomatic intervention by China and Malaysia, ASEAN's chair, called for restraint during the unrest.
Negotiations became feasible after U.S. President Donald Trump linked peace to ongoing tariff discussions. Cambodian and Thai defense ministers will establish ceasefire guidelines at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur. These instructions were developed over three days and will be concluded in the presence of observers from China and the United States.
