The Karnataka cabinet has received a significant report by the Justice H N Nagmohan Das Commission, focusing on internal reservations among Scheduled Castes (SCs). Introduced on Thursday, the report is set for discussion and decision at a special session slated for August 16.

Headed by retired High Court judge Nagmohan Das, the commission produced a detailed, 1,766-page report following an extensive scientific survey covering 92% of the SC community. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah received the report on August 4, and it was subsequently distributed among cabinet ministers.

The internal reservation initiative seeks to divide the existing 17% SC reservation among 101 caste groups, with notable allocations including 6% for SC (Left)/Madiga, and 5% for SC (Right)/Holeya. This move, enabled by a Supreme Court verdict, aims to address inequities within the SC reservation matrix.
