In a significant legal ruling, the Allahabad High Court has overturned the dismissal of police constable Taufiq Ahmad, who was previously discharged for alleged misconduct. The dismissal, executed by then Inspector General Rakesh Singh, was overturned following an appeal presented by Singh's own daughter, advocate Anura Singh.
Ahmad faced serious allegations, including sexual assault and violations under the POCSO Act, leading to his incarceration. However, the court agreed with Anura Singh's argument that the initial inquiry contravened established rules, notably the Uttar Pradesh Police Subordinate Ranks (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1991.
The court has ordered Ahmad's reinstatement, mandating a new inquiry within three months. Anura Singh emphasized that professional duty transcended personal relationships, a notion echoed by her father, Rakesh Singh. Ahmad, who was unaware of the familial connection during the proceedings, expressed gratitude for the justice served.
