A shocking case of infanticide has emerged from Sepahijala district, where a young woman was arrested for allegedly killing her infant daughter in order to facilitate an extramarital affair, according to Tripura Police.
Suchitra Debbarma, 28, was apprehended after police, acting on a tip from her neighbors, discovered the lifeless baby during a visit to her home. The grim discovery prompted immediate medical attention, but the baby was declared dead at Sonamura sub-divisional hospital.
Investigations revealed that Suchitra allegedly strangled her daughter while her husband was away. During questioning, she admitted to plotting the murder to elope with her lover, authorities confirmed.
