Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared that his nation could not avoid being drawn into any conflict over Taiwan due to its close proximity and the presence of around 200,000 Filipino workers on the island. This statement came despite China's protests over perceived interference.
Marcos emphasized that the Philippines would not back down in defending its territorial interests in the South China Sea, after a heated incident where Chinese coast guard ships employed aggressive tactics against Philippine vessels in the Scarborough Shoal.
Amid strained relations stemming from overlapping territorial claims, Marcos expanded security alliances with countries like the U.S. and Japan to counter China's assertiveness. He remained committed to defending Philippine sovereignty despite any opposition.
