Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, Chief of the Australian Army, began his four-day official visit to India today, marking another significant chapter in the rapidly strengthening defence and strategic relationship between the two nations. Scheduled from 11 to 14 August 2025, the visit is aimed at deepening military-to-military cooperation, enhancing operational interoperability, and reinforcing the shared vision for a stable Indo-Pacific region.
Ceremonial Welcome and Tributes in New Delhi
The visit commenced with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial, where General Stuart paid homage to the fallen heroes of the Indian Armed Forces. The tribute underscored Australia’s respect for India’s military sacrifices and its role in regional security.
Following this, a ceremonial Guard of Honour was accorded at South Block, where General Stuart was officially welcomed. He then held a formal meeting with General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, during which discussions covered India’s security outlook, the operational significance of Operation SINDOOR, and recent advancements in technology integration within the Indian Army.

Agra Visit: Elite Parachute Brigade and Cultural Diplomacy
On 12 August, General Stuart will travel to Agra to visit the 50 (Independent) Parachute Brigade, an elite airborne formation of the Indian Army, where he will interact with officers and soldiers, discussing joint training opportunities and operational experiences.
The visit will also include a cultural segment, with General Stuart scheduled to tour the iconic Taj Mahal, reflecting the broader people-to-people and cultural connections that complement defence cooperation. Later that day, he will return to New Delhi to deliver a keynote address at the National Defence College, focusing on regional security, joint force readiness, and strategic partnerships.
Pune Engagements: Training Institutions and Southern Command
On 13 and 14 August, General Stuart will proceed to Pune, where he will meet Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command. His programme includes a visit to the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, where he will address cadets on leadership, integrated training, and the future of India–Australia military collaboration.
In addition to these official calls, General Stuart will participate in various defence cooperation activities designed to enhance joint operational frameworks, training exchanges, and mutual understanding between the two armies.
