The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Dharmasthala 'mass burial' case now has police station powers, according to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara. This development permits individuals to directly lodge complaints related to the case with the SIT.
Tasked by the state government, the SIT is examining allegations of mass murder, rape, and mass burials in Dharmasthala, reportedly occurring over the last 20 years. A former sanitation worker claims to have buried several bodies, including those of women and minors, many of which showed signs of sexual assault, under coercion during his tenure from 1995 to 2014.
Minister Parameshwara indicated that findings will be disclosed once the SIT completes its investigation. The SIT has discovered skeletal remains at two sites, previously pinpointed by the complainant among a growing list of up to 19 locations.
