In a major crackdown on illegal workers, UK authorities have arrested hundreds, including Indian nationals, during a week-long operation focusing on two-wheeler delivery riders. The Home Office's Operation Equalise aimed at illegal working hotspots across the country, saw enforcement teams intensify their activities, targeting migrants working without the necessary documentation.

Between July 20 and 27, immigration enforcement officials stopped 1,780 individuals, making 280 arrests. Notably, seven Indian nationals were apprehended in Hillingdon, London, with five detained for illegal work. UK Minister for Border Security and Asylum, Dame Angela Eagle, emphasized the importance of this intensified effort in undermining border security violations.

Operation Equalise also led to a review of asylum support for 53 individuals and involved penalties for 51 businesses found employing illegal workers. As part of stepped-up border security, the Home Office plans further enforcement with a GBP 5 million boost, derived from a GBP 100 million border security investment. This includes enhanced intelligence and compliance checks across sectors.
