Officials confirm the incident occurred between 4:30 pm and 5 pm on Sunday while Najiar was with friends, including Sub-Inspector Wewanroy Challan. Najiar reportedly took Challan's firearm and was handling it when it discharged, striking him in the head. Police stated that there was no quarrel at the scene, and the shooting was entirely accidental.
The injured Najiar was first transported to a government hospital before being moved to a private health facility for further care. Authorities later referred him to a hospital in Shillong for specialized treatment. Meanwhile, the weapon in question has been seized for forensic examination, and a show-cause notice has been issued to Sub-Inspector Challan in connection with the incident.
