In a significant development in Dhenkanal district, Odisha Police apprehended the head priest of Mathakargola Ashram on Saturday for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman inmate.
The incident reportedly took place on August 4, within the premises of the ashram. The victim filed an FIR accusing the chief priest, Madhu Mangal Das, also known as Madan Mohan Parida, of assaulting her while she slept.
In response to the allegations, law enforcement arrested Das, who was subsequently remanded to jail for 14 days. While Das claims he is innocent and alleges a conspiracy against him, the case sheds light on troubling dynamics within the religious community.
