Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal presented the bill on Monday at Lok Sabha amidst opposition protests focused on the issue of voter rolls revision in Bihar. If enacted, the bill will amend 355 provisions, decriminalize 288, impacting significant acts such as the New Delhi Municipal Council Act of 1994 and the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.
The legislative initiative forms part of broader efforts to enhance India's business climate. Noteworthy features of the bill include converting imprisonment clauses into monetary penalties, advisory warnings for certain offences, and revising property tax assessments under the NDMC law to a formula-based system.
