In a dramatic turn of events, the Opposition MPs staged a walkout in the Rajya Sabha demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The session, initially focused on key legislative agendas, took a contentious turn.
As the session resumed post-lunch, Sasmit Patra from the BJD informed the House of scheduled time slots for discussions on the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025, and the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill 2025. Despite these planned discussions, opposition leaders, led by Mallikarjun Kharge, insisted on raising concerns about Bihar's electoral rolls.
Union Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal introduced the Indian Ports Bill amid the commotion, but the refusal by the Chair to discuss the electoral issue prompted noisy protests. The relentless demands by the Opposition, however, were declined, leading to their walkout and a further adjournment of House proceedings.
