The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) took action on Tuesday to cancel a controversial question related to the Manipur crisis from a recently held examination. The decision came after the Meitei Heritage Society (MHS) criticized the question for allegedly maligning their community.
According to APSC Chairman Debaraj Upadhaya, the commission did not have prior knowledge of the specific question, as exam papers are prepared by educators and locked by moderators. The MHS had earlier requested an official clarification as the question appeared in the Agricultural Development Officer Examination conducted on August 10.
The controversial question's portrayal of the crisis was challenged by the MHS, which argued that it misrepresented the involvement of Kuki-Chin militants and associated organizations. The APSC's decision to nullify the question was praised by the MHS, who expressed hope that similar incidents would not reoccur.
