In an ongoing dispute over the relocation of stray dogs in Delhi, former Union minister Vijay Goel has accused dog enthusiasts of defying the Supreme Court's directive to move the animals to shelters. Goel, spearheading the 'No Dogs on Streets' movement, announced intentions to file a contempt petition, asserting that these individuals impeded municipal actions.
Claims have risen that staff members from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) faced hostility while attempting to relocate stray dogs in Rohini. Goel argues this behavior not only flouts the judiciary's decision but also hampers public servants from performing their duties, calling for the arrest of the involved parties.
According to Goel, there are over a million stray dogs across the capital, with thousands of daily bite incidents reported. A recent confrontation in Rohini saw a veterinary team allegedly assaulted and their equipment vandalized by dog lovers opposing the capture of stray dogs.
