Pushing Forward: EU Membership Talks for Ukraine

European Council President Antonio Costa stressed the importance of moving forward with the process of making Ukraine a member of the European Union. He also underscored the necessity for Europe to partake in any peace negotiations alongside Ukraine, Russia, and the United States.

During a video call from Lisbon, Costa briefed council members on Monday's talks held in Washington. He noted there is still much to be done, and the outcome is uncertain, but the possibility of a bilateral meeting between Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Russia's Vladimir Putin was viewed as a generally positive sign.

Costa's comments follow a series of diplomatic engagements aimed at fostering dialogue and stability in the region. The potential meeting between the Ukrainian and Russian leaders marks a critical opportunity for progress in peace talks.
