Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has called for urgent peace talks among the state's leaders and communities to restore tranquility. During his visit to Churachandpur, he inaugurated a prefabricated house for internally displaced individuals, symbolizing a step towards rehabilitation.
Expressing his desire for a speedy return to normalcy, Bhalla assured the gathering that efforts are underway to facilitate peace talks. Manipur has been grappling with ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023, resulting in 260 deaths and thousands displaced.
In a meeting with the Kuki-Zo Council, Bhalla was urged to improve infrastructure, education, and healthcare, and responded with commitment to address these issues. The state continues under President's Rule since February.
