Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining subsidies on electricity bills, irrespective of the number of meters a consumer possesses.

During a state assembly session, Sukhu highlighted that there is no intention to discontinue the electricity subsidy. Instead, he had encouraged voluntary relinquishment, resulting in Rs 59 lakh saved, as 12,000 to 15,000 consumers opted out of subsidies up to February 2025. The government is also evaluating an increase in the subsidy limit from the current 125 units to 300 units.

Sukhu also updated the assembly on the smart meter installation project, revealing that 6,52,955 meters have been installed in Shimla and Dharamshala zones, with full coverage expected by February 2026. Additionally, Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh announced that individuals in specific vulnerable categories would now be included in the BPL list.
