The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to T Gangi Reddy, an accused in the murder of former Congress MP Y S Vivekananda Reddy.

A bench consisting of Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh provided the relief in the high-profile case. Vivekananda, the uncle of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his home in Pulivendula, Kadapa district, in March 2019.

The murder investigation initially handled by the state's Special Investigation Team was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in July 2020. The case has been marked by numerous twists, with suspicions of political motives given its occurrence weeks before the 2019 Andhra Pradesh assembly elections.
