Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday highlighted the Narendra Modi government's transformative strategy in disaster management since 2014, emphasizing a shift to rescue-centric operations. This approach has markedly reduced casualties and damage during disasters, a departure from prior relief-centric strategies.

Chairing a Parliamentary Consultative Committee meeting for the Ministry of Home Affairs on 'Disaster Management and Capacity Building,' Shah pointed out the success of the government's policy pivot, citing a 98% reduction in cyclone damage and zero casualties in recent storms. The strategy is rooted in capacity building, speed, efficiency, and accuracy.

Substantial financial increases underscore this commitment, with the allocation to the State Disaster Response Fund and National Disaster Response Fund nearly tripling in the past decade. The focus remains on saving lives and minimizing losses, with recent allocations for disaster mitigation setting the stage for continued improvements.
