The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in Meghalaya is setting the standard in North Eastern India by utilizing the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP)-based integrated alert system for disaster warnings, as revealed by an official on Wednesday.

In a robust effort to enhance public safety, the Meghalaya SDMA has successfully dispatched a total of 13.84 lakh alert SMS to over 7.28 lakh mobile subscribers through 62 alert messages, heightening the region's emergency response capabilities.

Facilitated by real-time information from the India Meteorological Department's Shillong centre, the system covers diverse hazards including floods, cyclones, and tsunamis, enabling timely and effective alerts across multiple platforms like SMS, mobile apps, and satellite channels.
