The Meghalaya government has recently strengthened its Civil Defence and Home Guards Department by appointing 445 new recruits. This marks a significant step in bolstering the state's emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
Minister Comingone Ymbon, who led the appointment event in Mawdiangdiang, emphasized the importance of discipline and integrity among the new recruits, who will take on roles such as sub-inspectors, guardsmen, drivers, and non-combatant employees.
Despite facing a weather-related hurdle during the physical tests, the recruitment process succeeded in selecting top candidates. Meanwhile, plans are in the works to convert the Border Wing into a State Disaster Response Force for enhanced efficiency.
