In Kolkata, a confrontation flared between ISF activists and police during a demonstration over electoral roll revisions and alleged migrant harassment. This led to the detention of ISF MLA Nawsad Siddique and several others as police employed minimal force to clear protesters obstructing traffic in the city's core.
Spearheaded by Siddique, ISF supporters, brandishing national flags, convened at the Y Channel in Esplanade, bringing vehicle movement to a standstill amidst clashes with law enforcement. The protest aimed at highlighting discontent with the Waqf Amendment Act and the perceived targeting of Bengali migrants, as well as accusing the Election Commission of conspiring against citizens with SIR.
Siddique accused the TMC government of indifference toward public concerns and criticized its handling of issues affecting migrants and minorities, before his detention. Police maintained their restraint in response, and no injuries were reported.
