Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi expressed gratitude to the Gauhati High Court for its critical stance on the grant of 3,000 bighas to a cement firm in Dima Hasao. The court's rebuke of the Assam government's actions reflects growing concerns over corporate land deals in tribal regions.

Last week, the Gauhati High Court questioned the state's decision, likening it to a 'joke.' The allocation to the private entity, situated in the largely tribal Dima Hasao district, has drawn scrutiny for undercutting constitutional safeguards.

The High Court instructed the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council to re-evaluate records related to this hefty land transfer. Gogoi highlighted that this issue is widespread across Assam's major districts and Sixth Schedule areas. Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi remarked that the land grant was extraordinarily large, suspecting it might cover an entire district.
