A staggering Rs 11,310 crore worth of narcotics were seized from multiple ports across India from 2020 to 2024, according to information provided in the Rajya Sabha. The disclosure came in response to a query directed at Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai.

The extensive report, built from data collected by drug law enforcement agencies, paints a stark picture of the narcotics trade's grip on the nation. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) data reveals that Gujarat, with seizures worth Rs 7,350 crore, tops the list. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu also report substantial confiscations.

The Gujarat seizures include significant amounts from the Adani Port SEZ in Mundra, the site of mammoth heroin and cocaine confiscations. Maharashtra saw massive drug interceptions at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu's VO Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin and West Bengal's ports have not been left untouched.
