Court Rejects SIT Probe for Cow Deaths in Mathura Shelters

The Allahabad High Court has decided against ordering an SIT investigation into the deaths of cows and a calf at cow shelters in Vrindavan, Matura district. The decision follows assurances from the state government that measures are now in place to prevent such incidents from recurring.

The court made this decision while disposing of a PIL filed by Prahalad Krishna Shukla, who had urged the formation of an SIT to probe the deaths at various shelters. The petitioner also sought ongoing monitoring of cow shelters in the area. The high court's division bench directed state authorities to ensure proper care and regular monitoring of these shelters.

Despite allegations of inadequate action following the December 13 deaths of 50 cows, the state reported that an investigation commenced swiftly, and an interim report was filed. However, only five cows from two gaushalas were confirmed dead, according to the state government's report.
