At least three individuals lost their lives during a Russian artillery assault on Kostiantynivka, a strategically significant city in Ukraine's Donbas region, as Moscow's military maneuvers to encircle the area, according to local authorities on Wednesday. Additionally, four others sustained injuries in the attack targeting a local market.
Governor Vadym Filashkin reported the shelling involved eight strikes from a multiple rocket launch system. He urged city residents to evacuate as Russian forces approach from three sides. Filashkin noted the city faced intensified bombardment, with 10 guided bombs dropped just a day earlier.
Despite Russian assertions denying civilian targeting, the conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. The Kremlin suggests a troop withdrawal from Donbas as a peace term, but Kyiv has rejected this proposition as Russian efforts continue in the area.
