An investigation has been launched following a serious allegation from a woman in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, who claims her newborn son was switched with a baby girl at a government hospital, officials revealed on Wednesday.

Chanchal Kumari, a resident of Vijay Chhapra, delivered her baby boy at the facility on Tuesday. The initial announcement by hospital staff, confirming the birth of a boy, brought delight to her family. In gratitude, they tipped a nurse Rs 2,000. However, the situation took a concerning turn when the family returned home and discovered their newborn was a girl, sparking immediate contact with the hospital and the local police.

Authorities have registered a police complaint, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vineeta Sinha has visited the hospital to interrogate the nursing staff. CCTV footage from the hospital is currently under review as part of the thorough investigation.
