B Sudarshan Reddy, the opposition's candidate for vice president, officially entered the race by filing his nomination papers. The former Supreme Court judge emphasized that the contest is not simply about one individual but about reaffirming India's democratic principles, including parliamentary integrity and institutional independence.

Supported by prominent figures such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Sharad Pawar, Reddy pledged to uphold dialogue, decorum, and impartiality if elected. His nomination was backed by 160 MPs and the combined strength of the opposition parties, turning the vice-presidential election into a contest of South vs. South.

Countering Reddy in this race is Maharashtra Governor and BJP's candidate C P Radhakrishnan, who enjoys substantial backing from the ruling party. The vice president's electoral college will decide between these opposing visions for the country's second-highest constitutional office.
