The body of Manisha, a 19-year-old teacher whose mysterious death in Bhiwani triggered public outrage, has been laid to rest after a large funeral attended by scores of villagers. The circumstances surrounding her demise continue to fuel controversy as calls for a CBI investigation intensify.
Manisha's disappearance on August 11, followed by the discovery of her body two days later, led to protests and the suspension of mobile internet in the district. Despite the emergence of a supposed suicide note, her family adamantly rejects the suicide theory, demanding justice and an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
On Wednesday, the Haryana government acceded to the family's demands, transferring the case to the CBI. Political figures like Bhupinder Singh Hooda criticized the state government's handling of the case, accusing them of negligence and attempting to dismiss the death as a suicide.
